The Japan America Kite Festival took place on October 20 at the Seal Beach Pier. As usual the winds were light in the morning with overcast skies and then windy and sunny by afternoon.
There were lots of show kites up in the air on the single line field, lots of demos on the demo field, and lots of kids everywhere with the kites they made themselves. Of course there was lots of Japanese culture to be found including a Master Kite Maker, Taiko drumming, music ( a shamisen – weird Japanese 3 string banjo thingy), food (Ramen Burgers!) and a raffle (if Mrs. WebApprentice had won one more thing we wouldnt have fit in the Miata).
The San Diego Kite Club was well represented this year with single line flyers, demo flyers, and audience members at Camp SDKC.
If you weren’t there this year, or have never been, you owe it to yourself to put it on your calendar for next year.
