About Us

Founding FathersJuly 2010 marked the 20th Anniversary of the San Diego Kite Club.  Ron Despojado- left, President Dan Willan- center and Membership Chairman Walt Thompson – right, hold up the cake commemorating the clubs 20 years of existence. Ron, Dan, and Walt were three of the original club members and have remained with the club throughout. All three have held the title of President for more than one term in office at one time or another.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the San Diego Kite Club as a non-profit organization shall be to educate the public in the art, history, technology and practices of building and flying kites; to advance kiting, its joys and its values.

We, as a club, shall:

  • Share information about kiting and provide avenues of communication among fellow kiters.
  • Promote the art, sport, utility, and scientific study of kiting for all ages
  • Facilitate coordination and planning kiting activities
  • Maintain historic records of kite clubs activities
  • Seek interchange with kite clubs internationally

  • We meet every second Saturday of the month at Mission Bay Park off Interstate 5 & Sea World Drive unless otherwise noted. Map
  • We have several members that are well recognized nationally & internationally
  • We are open to kite enthusiasts of all ages
  • AKA (American Kiteflier’s Association) sanctioned club
