Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt – 2026
March 14th, 2026, marked the annual Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Calvary San Diego & Calvary Christian Academy.
We were honored to be invited again this year by Lisa Aiu, who also invited us in 2025. I must add that Lisa is an absolute joy to communicate with and a truly lovely person. Lisa wrote me an email after the festivities providing additional information about who helps to make this event happen.
“Phil Metzger is the man in the middle next to me in the yellow skirt. He is the Senior Pastor at Calvary San Diego, the church that sponsors and organizes this event. The gentleman in red is Amos Dillard, Senior Pastor of City Lights Church, who originally brought the Egg Hunt idea to us as a partnership opportunity.
We are truly thrilled to partner with City Lights Church, along with so many incredible sponsors and community partners, to create an unforgettable day for families!”
San Diego Kite Club volunteers included Ziggy Santa Maria, Amanda and Guy Butrum, and our club kids, Ayla, Nora, and Ellie.

The day began with club members preparing an advertising banner so attendees would know where to find us and fly kites. We had a designated spot on the grassy field for flying and set up a couple of tables to hold gear, provide information, and organize our activities.
One by one, the kids arrived, and we quickly worked to put kites in their hands.
I heard echoes from several parents saying this was their child’s first time flying a kite. The field only provided a light breeze, so we used dragon kites made of mylar to help keep them in the air. Super lightweight and easy to manage, they flew beautifully even at a steady walking pace. At times, we had as many as eight kids flying kites at once. Smiles were everywhere, and our portion of the event was a complete success.
Amanda and Guy generously volunteered to help with the kids, fly kites, and be on standby for any kite-related tasks. They did an excellent job representing our club. Amanda mentioned this was the perfect event to be a part of and felt really good contributing to it.
