Looking for a reason to go fly a kite?

Received some information about an upcoming kite fly from our AKA Rep Glen Rothstein.

The First Annual Community and Unity Peoples Kite Fly is being held at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on Saturday July 17. A couple of well known kite flyers will be there.

A bit of a trip to get there (Downtown LA near Union Station/Chinatown) but if you are interested more info can be found here:

If you have a specialty you like to bring nobody will complain but remember
not everyone can bring dessert (or main dishes for that matter).

Activity: From The President:
San Diego Kite Club will hold its Annual Picnic on July 10th at Coronado Cays Park. Fresh winds, a large grassy field, and warm sunshine are predicted. Parking is allowed on the asphalt parking lot next to the fire station or curbside along the field.

This is the time to get together to greet old friends and meet new friends. Bring you newest and favorite kites to fly. Don’t forget the sunscreen and folding chairs. Hope to see you there.

But That’s Not All: July is normally Officer Election Month. We haven’t been doing this well in recent years but maybe it is time for some changes and new blood to energize the Club. Maybe not, you get to decide. Up for Election this year is Vice President and Treasurer (Next year President and Secretary). The Treasurer will serve if no one steps up but she has been doing it a long time, not sure what the VP says at this time. The President is retiring next year so maybe you want to get a taste as VP before  becoming the Big Cheese!

Anyway short notice but give it some thought. We need You!

Don’t have an indoor kite yet? Don’t worry come out anyway, one of us will likely have a kite to lend.

 

Mark your calendars!  The first San Diego Kite Club General Meeting of the year will be held at Tecolote Shores on May 8th, 2021.  Fly during the morning, club meeting at noon, pizza for lunch, fly during the afternoon.  Show off the latest additions to your kite bag.  Free Prize Drawing.  Not a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

We have several things to discuss at the meeting.

1. Cuyamaca Kids’ Fly at the end of August.
2. T-Shirts for the July Picnic meeting.
3. Memorial Fly tribute to past members.
4. OB Fest postponed to maybe October.
5. Our Webmaster Apprentice wants to retire. We are asking for a volunteer. Lessons & support included.
6. All memberships will be extended 14 months, the length of our Covid shutdown.
7. A free drawing will be held for all members present at the General Meeting. Must be present at beginning of meeting to participate in the drawing.
8. Drawing prizes: Prism Synapse 170; 75’ Tube Tail; or a fresh pack of Rev Quad Lines

Covid-19 Pandemic still exists and forces us to cancel the official September 12^th General Meeting of the San Diego Kite Club.  The rules placed by the Parks and Recreation Department still prohibit large gatherings at Tecolote Shores Park.  Small family activities are allowed and I hope some members are getting a kite or two into the sky.

LET’S AIM FOR A PHOTOGRAPH OF 30 KITES IN THE SKY ON OCTOBER 10TH.  Thirty kites all day to celebrate the Thirtieth Anniversary of the San Diego Kite Club.  Don’t know what the winds will be on that Saturday, so bring a bag full of single line kites for light, moderate, and strong winds.  We’ll follow Covid rules of facemasks, bring your own lunch, and water.  Starting at noon!
