May General Meeting

Saturday, May 14, Tecolote Shores, Mission Bay, Map If You Need It

Time: Fly All Day, Meeting Noon’ish Sharp

Lunch: Almost Certainly. Want to he a HERO and arrange lunch for the club? Let Iris know at treasurer@sandiegokiteclub.com

Activity: Traditionally in May we have a small ceremony to remember SDKC members who are no longer with us. Have a kite that was built or owned by a member who is gone? This is a great day to bring it out and fly it! Also, the OB Kite Festival is May 21 and this would be a great time to test out any kites you plan to fly then and a great time to practice your demo flying.

Ocean Beach Kite Festival

Saturday, May 21, Robb Field, Ocean Beach, Map If You Need It

Time: All Day

Lunch: You are on your own. Bring one, walk to a nearby place, see what the Kiwani’s arranged (food truck, etc).

Activities: Fly and show off your kites. Do a demo flight on center stage (we definitely need some of these). Walk around, talk kites with attendees, kite wrangle for families that need help with their kites. Generally promote kites and recruit new members. You talked to current members last week.

What is it about? SDKC has been asked to help get the first annual Soaring Spirits Kite Festival off the ground (kite humor). The Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel is putting on this festival to promote a positive family day outing for member families. Plus, it is National Kite Month after all.  On Friday Dan Willan is putting on a educational presentation for the kids and on Saturday there will be kite flying. So we are looking for a few volunteers to come and fly kites and help with kite wrangling.

There is also a waiver to sign and bring along:
